Beyond the Bench: Building a Meaningful Career in Life Sciences

On Thursday, April 16th, we had the pleasure of hosting Beyond the Bench: Building a Meaningful Career in Life Sciences at Biopôle Lausanne, led by Dr. Aleksandar Boro, and what an inspiring afternoon it was ✨

Bringing together a group of highly engaged PhD students and postdoctoral researchers, the workshop created a space for honest reflection, thoughtful discussion, and practical learning. From exploring the Swiss biotech, pharma, and medtech landscape 🔬 to diving into personal values, transferable skills, and career strategy, the conversations went far beyond the traditional “job search” mindset.

What stood out most was the depth of engagement 💡 Participants didn’t just seek answers, they challenged ideas, shared perspectives, and demonstrated a strong commitment to shaping careers with intention and purpose.

This is exactly what BSNL aims to foster: a community where early-career scientists can gain clarity, confidence, and direction as they navigate paths beyond the bench 🚀

A big thank you to Dr. Aleksandar Boro for delivering such a thoughtful and impactful workshop, and to everyone who participated and contributed to the discussions 🙌

We are also grateful to our organizing team for making this event possible:

Suna In, Denis Cmunt, Krishna Gajera, Ana Belén Plata, Jiayi Tan, and Oscar Alfageme Abelló.
